ETNO Children. Shrovetide masks

A man celebrates the Shrovetide wearing bears maskOn 22nd of February at 5 p.m. we are making Shrovetide masks together with children and their parents!

The Shrovetide is one of the most favourite calendar celebrations in Lithuania, which cannot be imaginable without colourful and charming masks. The majority of those masks used to reflect various animals, such as horses, goats, cranes and others. Each mask used to have something unique in its structure or decor and had its own meaning and purpose as well.

All those masks usually had been carved out of the wood, yet due to a lengthy process new techniques became popular afterwards and new materials, such as paper, carton, fur, appeared.

In this workshop the participants are going to make their very unique Shrovetide masks by using special moulages and the papier-mache technique. All the needed materials are provided by us.

The children can take part by themselves or bring their parents together.
