Living Waters. Spring Equinox

3x2On March 20, the Spring Equinox, a celebration of the transformation of nature, takes place, when the duration of day and night becomes equal throughout the globe, and the astronomical spring begins. This year, as we cross the threshold of spring, we invite you to feel the element of the waters and visit the sculptures dedicated to it in the Šventaragis Valley.

Water is one of the classical elements of the world, considered in various cultures to be the beginning of life and the power of nature with magical features. It can be diverse: celestial water and groundwater, flowing springs, rivers and stagnant lakes and ponds, fresh rain and salty sea. It can be refreshing, healing, cleansing and protective – we find it in all forms not only in nature and everyday life, but also in folklore, ancient customs and beliefs.

In tales and myths, water marks the beginning and end of the world and explains the emergence of some phenomena. In customs, it accompanies the essential moments of human life and symbolically appears during many calendar holidays. The custom of the ancient Lithuanians to bathe in the river flowing from the east on an equinox morning in pursuit of purity and health testifies to the belief in its miraculous power to bring life back to Earth after the winter.

From March 20 to March 31, the interactive sculptures symbolizing the element of water in the Šventaragis Valley will invite you to “dive” into spring and experience the vitality of water through poetry and the sounds of reviving nature.

From March 20 to March 31, the interactive sculptures created by Rytas Jonas Belevičius and Rūta Ona Čigriejūtė, standing in the Šventaragis Valley, will invite you to "dive" into spring and experience the vitality of water through the poetry created by Vladas Braziūnas and the sounds of reviving nature.
