2025-08-08–10
9:00–17:30
VU Botanikos sodas (Kairėnų g. 43, Vilnius)

Once again, Vilnius Ethnic Culture Centre invites you to explore the mysteries of straw gardens. The camp “Sodo rėda”, dedicated to the tradition of straw garden making – which is included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity –will offer a place for both skilled artists and beginners who want to learn the subtleties of this art.

From 8 to 10 August, the camp, which will take place in the Vilnius University Botanical Garden, will offer a variety of straw garden making workshops. The practical part of the camp will be enriched by morning lectures and presentations of artists’ creative work. In “Sodo rėda”, craftsmen from Lithuania and abroad will share their secrets and knowledge about the traditions of straw gardens in their region. It will also be an excellent opportunity not only to learn more about straw garden making but also to get to know modern interpretations of this art.

The workshop will be led by Lithuanian craftsmen Jūratė Bytautė (Zapyškis), Rasa Družienė (Krekenava), Bronė Gricienė (Šiauliai), Raimonda Kiminaitė (Šiauliai), Zita Kumpelienė (Vabalninkas), Danutė Norvaišienė (Vilnius), Raimundas Rotkevičius (Vilnius), Jurgita Treinytė (Kaišiadorys) and foreign guests Elaine Lindsay (Scotland) and Nanné Frémont (Finland / France).
