Pa(ra)gauti folkloro | Singalong with the Vilnius folk ensemble VARANGĖ
This November, the Vilnius folk ensemble “Varangė”, led by Varsa Liutkutė-Zakarienė, invites you to bid farewell to autumn and celebrate the Year of Lithuanian Folk Songs.
Join us on November 20 at 7 p.m. at “Miesto laboratorija” for “Pa(ra)gauti folkloro” — an evening not of performance, but of participation. This is an open invitation to meet fellow folklore enthusiasts and learn some of their most beloved songs.
The repertoire of “Varangė”—whose name refers to a snake often mentioned in Lithuanian riddles and proverbs, symbolizing renewal and the continuity of tradition—features songs from every region of Lithuania. Most of them were recorded by the ensemble members themselves during expeditions or reconstructed from folklore material stored in archives, so during the singalong, you will be delighted not only by the melodious tunes, but also by the singers' close relationship with the songs they perform.
